BOOKKEEPER

ABOUT THE ROLE
 

The Ellis Group is looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our Monthly Delivery Team, reporting to our Monthly Pod Lead.
 

You'll take ownership of a portfolio of 40–60 monthly retainer clients, primarily UK service-based agencies with turnovers between £200k and £2m.
 

This is a high-volume role suited to someone with strong UK practice experience who is confident managing their own client portfolio and taking full responsibility for the monthly bookkeeping process.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

• Full monthly bookkeeping ownership across a portfolio of 40–60 clients

• Bank reconciliations and transaction coding

• Preparing UK VAT workings

• Invoice processing using Dext and Apron

• Managing bookkeeping requirements through month-end

• Preparing accurate month-end packs ready for review

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records

• Communicating directly and professionally with clients where required
   

EXPECTATIONS
 

During your first 30 days, transactions will be reviewed as part of your onboarding and familiarisation with our processes.
 

By month two, you'll be expected to take full ownership of your portfolio and work independently, with appropriate support and review from the wider team.
 

REQUIREMENTS
 

• 3+ years' UK accountancy practice bookkeeping experience

• Experience managing 30+ clients simultaneously

• Strong working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks Online

• Ability to confidently manage a full month-end bookkeeping process

• Strong UK VAT knowledge, including standard rate, flat rate and cash accounting

• Experience using Dext and/or Apron for invoice processing

• BrightManager experience, or willingness to learn the platform quickly

• Strong written English and ability to communicate professionally with clients

• Right to work in the UK

• Own laptop, reliable internet connection and dedicated workspace
   

Please note: This role requires previous UK accountancy practice experience. Industry-only bookkeeping experience will not be suitable for this position.
 

NICE TO HAVE
 

• AAT qualified or part-qualified

• Previous experience working with marketing, creative or service-based agency clients

• Experience working with subscription or retainer business models
   

ROLE DETAILS
 

Employment: PAYE, full-time employed
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Fully remote, UK
Holiday: 28 days per year including bank holidays
Pension: Auto-enrolment
Probation: 6 months
Notice: 1 week during probation, 1 month post-probation, rising to 3 months after 2 years
